1. Policy Statement

UK Muslim Management Council (UKMMC) is committed to ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and protection of all individuals who engage with our organisation. This includes children, young people, vulnerable adults, volunteers, staff, and members of the public.

We recognise our responsibility to protect individuals from harm, abuse, neglect, discrimination, exploitation, or any behaviour that could compromise their safety or dignity.

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility of all trustees, staff, volunteers, and partners working with UKMMC.


2. Scope

This policy applies to:

  • Trustees and management
  • Staff and volunteers
  • Contractors and partners
  • Participants in events, training, and programmes
  • Visitors to UKMMC premises or activities

3. Safeguarding Principles

UKMMC commits to the following safeguarding principles:

  • Protect the welfare of children and vulnerable adults
  • Provide a safe environment for all participants
  • Promote a culture of respect, dignity, and inclusion
  • Ensure safeguarding concerns are reported and addressed promptly
  • Maintain transparency and accountability in safeguarding practices

4. Responsibilities

Trustees

  • Ensure safeguarding policies are implemented
  • Provide oversight and governance
  • Ensure compliance with UK law and Charity Commission guidance

Safeguarding Lead

  • Manage safeguarding concerns
  • Liaise with relevant authorities
  • Maintain safeguarding records
  • Provide guidance and training

Staff and Volunteers

  • Follow safeguarding procedures
  • Report concerns immediately
  • Maintain professional boundaries

5. Safe Recruitment

UKMMC follows safe recruitment practices including:

  • Identity verification
  • Reference checks
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks where required
  • Safeguarding training for staff and volunteers

6. Reporting Safeguarding Concerns

Any safeguarding concern must be reported immediately to the designated Safeguarding Lead.

Where necessary, concerns may also be referred to:

  • Local Authority Safeguarding Teams
  • Police
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

7. Confidentiality

All safeguarding information will be handled sensitively and confidentially. Information will only be shared where necessary to protect individuals.


8. Policy Review

This policy will be reviewed annually by UKMMC Management to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
